Super Dwarf Retics

In 2005 I aquired 2.2 adult super dwarf retics. They were originally imported as babies back in the late 90's by a fellow who of all places lived in Calgary. (I remember seeing them at the shows there and wondering if they truly would be "dwarf" retics, my concern was unfounded!). Although he lived in Alberta, he did it legally and had all the necessary permits. They then changed hands at some point and one of the females was bred by Chris Marshal in '03 I believe, and then again by a well known breeder the following year before I got a hold of them.

They are very small by normal retic standards. The picture on the left is of an adult male approximately 9/10 years old. He is just under 6 feet in length, I've had corn snakes bigger than this! Females will grow a little larger and are heavier bodied than the males. Females are sexually mature when they are about 6 feet long and seem to max out at around 8'. I equate the females eventual adult size to a good sized Coatal carpet python. You can feed them as much as they want to eat and they just don't grow! . The picture on the right is of a baby after his first shed and before his first meal. This was an average weight of the babies I checked. This is about half of what a normal sized baby would weigh.

They are easy to keep and seem to breed readily with very little effort. The babies are calm and a joy to handle and they feed like crazy. If you like retics but have been reluctant to get one because of the size then these are for you.
